An elegant and interesting stone - composed of a solid black and metallic black base stone with some bluish-white spotting. Providing unmatched versatility, it wears beautifully with practically any color, including black and earth tones. Mostly an artistic stone of variable color and non-standard shape; some purist qualities, however, include a highly polished surface with few visible flaws.

Description: Small white to light blue-white organic spots against a solid black to metallic black base color; long oval shaped, opaque stone, wrapped in 22-gauge sterling silver wire.

Stone Size: Medium (1-1/4” x 11/16” x 7/16”).

Pattern: Solid black and metallic with some small white to light blue organically shaped spots.

Contour: Sloped, slightly curved high ridged face

Unique Features: Rich black color with a metallic sheen, patchy spotting pattern.

Polish: High gloss, brilliant.

Edges: Smooth, high half dome.

Treatment: None; natural stone, smoothed and polished only.

Comment: A non-typical black onyx. The rich metallic and black coloration is naturally caused by manganese oxides rather than the typical carbon in most black onyx stones. Once defined as a black and white banded agate, natural black onyx is currently defined the same as solid black jasper.
